BreakAway Preps

Jane, Bob, Carol, and Don joined Red, Shauna, Cain, Pete, and Thomas for another day of BreakAway preparations. While Red, Shauna, and Cain broke ground with the Ditch Witch, we cleared a path along the flagged route with hand saws, loppers, and a chain saw. The entire route has now been cleared of brush.

BreakAway Preps

Jane Ellett, Bob DeHart, Carol, and I accompanied 6 members of the CTC trail building crew on Graysville Mountain getting ready for Spring BreakAway. We got lots of work done but the hard part was getting to the work site. The even harder part was getting back to our vehicles; it's a long uphill hike.

Rock Creek

Shauna, Bob, Carol, and I took advantage of overcast conditions to complete recording our tour of Rock Creek video. Although lighting conditions were excellent, the temperature was a little on the chilly side. Fortunately it took only a couple of hours to record video of trail between upper and lower trailheads so we weren't out in the cold too long.

Wagon Master Training

Mark Richie hosted a Wagon Master training session today at Little Soddy Historic Mining Area. This training preps volunteers for a month of trail building with college students during the annual BreakAway event. As part of the training, we re-routed a section of trail that was being undermined by Little Soddy Creek. Hikers can now walk on this short stretch of trail and not worry about it caving in. After the training session, we drove to McGill Creek trail presently under construction and toured trail that has been built since January 7.

McGill Creek 6Feb16

I quit at noon today but rock steps on the rerouted trail segment were almost complete and will be complete later today. This short rerouted section is fun to hike and reminds me of driving on a winding mountain road. I think McGill Creek trail may become a favorite of many.
